In the Fashion Styling workshop, in collaboration with L’Officiel Italia, Master in Fashion Styling & Visual Merchandising students Margherita Bonometti, Angelita Franco, and Marcela Van Herk developed the project “Threads of Revolution.”
The concept revolves around using fashion to communicate a powerful message about the world’s struggles with climate change, hyper-consumerism, and fast fashion. Drawing inspiration from Vivienne Westwood’s rebellious punk spirit, the project aims to create an advertorial for L’Officiel Italia, shedding light on these critical environmental challenges.

The students focus on sourcing garments that emphasise true sustainability and recycling. They choose brands like Simon Cracker, known for their commitment to sustainable fashion, and Lorenzo Seghezzi for his tailored pieces, also integrating the perspectives of emerging designers. This selection is intended to reflect the central theme of the project: using fashion to comment on and critique hyper-consumerism and its environmental consequences.
Choosing the right photographer and selecting models who embody a non-commercial style, and distinctive features are crucial steps for the project. The photoshoot takes place in Milan at San Cristoforo sul Naviglio, where the backdrops range from a church to concrete, brick, and uniquely textured walls, creating a powerful visual contrast with the message being communicated.
For props, materials are chosen that highlight the harmful effects of hyper-consumerism, using them in combination with specific poses and gestures that express the anger and frustration caused by these issues. During the shoot, short behind-the-scenes videos are also created for social media, intended to be used as reels on Instagram and TikTok, to amplify the project’s message.
“Threads of Revolution” thus aims to address contemporary social and ecological issues through a punk aesthetic. The project uses provocative images and reflective commentary to challenge conventional fashion norms and inspire a movement towards more responsible and sustainable practices in the industry.
