Within the Fashion Styling workshop in collaboration with The Velvet Knife, the students of the Master in Fashion Styling & Visual Merchandising Anuja Jagtap, Laia Matas Largo, Margherita Bonometti, and Jiajing Gao, developed the project “The Pineapple Pizza Issue”.
With the objective of developing branded content for The Velvet Knife portal, the group focused on embracing the brand’s spirit of creativity and openness aimed at engaging young audiences, and produced a fashion film, presented in a disruptive way. The aim of the editorial created by this group was to explore the concept of cultural fusion and reinterpretation from a generational perspective.

The idea was to investigate how contemporary trends look back to the past by interweaving references to new contemporary standards. Thanks to the idea of an exploratory journey of discovery and inspiration, the group managed to bridge the generation gap by showing how the common denominator is the elegant and enduring appeal of timeless fashion.
Proposing the concept of “Pineapple Pizza and Beyond: unraveling cultural hybridity’s influence on social and cultural evolution” the group developed their idea on the clash between Italian culinary traditions and globalized tastes created by pineapple on pizza. Historically, many Italians reject pineapple toppings due to strict culinary regulations and a preference for local, high-quality ingredients. Nonetheless, some Italians are open to experimenting with new flavors, embracing the evolving nature of Italian cuisine towards innovative blends of flavors.
As part of the project, the group also engaged in a conversation with Allison Fullin, touching on themes of cultural fusion, women’s empowerment, and the evolution of social structures. Fullin emphasized that it is increasingly difficult to define individuals by rigid categories like gender or race, noting that society is moving towards greater gender balance. She highlighted the growing visibility of creative women in fashion, such as Martine Rose and Grace Wales Bonner, as a sign of this positive shift. This perspective added depth to the discussion, reinforcing how cultural hybridity influences not only fashion but also broader societal changes.
