Ruins of a Lost Future

In collaboration with Biennale di Venezia.
The students took their inspiration from the concept of division of work and leisure in the 1927 film Metropolis. They designed a new utopian layer on the city rooftops. This new layer is organized as a vast series of grids to provide accessibility to all citizens within a ten-minute walk.
The utopian plane becomes an ecological retreat hosting a series of lost typologies and forgotten artifacts that emerge from the city below in their pure gilded form. These objects serve as reminders of public rituals from the metropolis that have been given a new spiritual life in the utopia.
