As part of the Design of Spaces workshop in collaboration with Progetto CMR, students of the Master in Interior & Living Design — Asude Saka, Sude Akay, Deniz İrem Filiz and Leah Ulven — explored how a treatment space inspired by Mediterranean natural elements could positively impact the physical and mental recovery of oncology patients. Starting from this question, they developed a project that translates the healing power of nature into a tangible design solution.
Guided by the concept of Nature’s Healing Power, their project focuses on the profound benefits of green spaces on health and well-being. Rooted in the principles of biophilic design, the students aimed to strengthen the connection between people and nature through thoughtful architectural and interior design choices. Drawing inspiration from Puglia’s landscape, they envisioned spaces that foster healing by integrating natural materials, geometric and organic structures, and green elements that echo the outdoor environment.

Key design features include circular and fluid forms, inspired by organic shapes found in nature, to enhance both aesthetics and navigation. Green walls, indoor gardens, and abundant natural light create a soothing atmosphere that mirrors the restorative effects of outdoor spaces. The use of stone, wood, and other natural textures adds warmth and authenticity, while a soft, neutral colour palette reinforces a sense of calm. The layout prioritises open areas with natural pathways, promoting a seamless connection to the surrounding environment.
By integrating biophilic design, this project reimagines healthcare spaces beyond traditional clinical settings, offering a therapeutic environment designed to reduce stress, elevate mood, and improve patient outcomes.
