As part of the New Product Strategies workshop in collaboration with Rituals, students from the Masters in Business Design and Visual Brand Design — Kumar Bhaskar, Xu Mingyang, Huang Li-Wen, Yang Ming Sin and Nardeen Ahmed Shah—developed a new retail marketing strategy and experience called “Formemories”.
After conducting in-depth market and brand positioning research, the team focused on a key question: How can we help people create lasting memories through Rituals’ scents? This inquiry inspired the concept of an immersive experience that forges a deep connection between aroma and memory. Thus, the idea of a pop-up installation was born—a space where customers could embark on a sensory journey that embodies the Rituals philosophy.

From the moment customers step into the installation, they are guided through a curated customer journey. This begins with visually engaging posters shared on social media and physical spaces to build anticipation. At the heart of the experience is the Digital Tree, an interactive photo frame symbolising a “memories wall,” where visitors can upload their most cherished Christmas photographs. The installation also features six immersive Aroma Christmas Hats, showcasing distinctive Rituals scents and kaleidoscopic patterns inspired by festive traditions. To make the experience even more personal, customers have the opportunity to customise their gifts, crafting unique tokens of memory and joy.
With Formemories, the students succeeded in blending innovation, storytelling, and Rituals’ core values, creating an experience that leaves a lasting impression.
