As the final thesis of the Master in Product Design, the student Rami Majzoub developed the project “Date”.
Date is an oval shape portable container for personal belongings using waste from date palm.
Date palm, the most important tree in the Middle East, produces a huge amount of waste yearly in the form of fibrous materials, dried fruits, and seeds. Such waste is a great source of excellent degradable biomass that can be used in numerous applications as natural fiber composites, and secondary use by reprocessing the fibers.

Having a durable material that is water resistant makes date suitable for every setting due to the presence of natural resign like lignin in the composition mixture. Data comes in two sizes where each resembles a life period of the date fruit as it grows and changes its color from yellow to dark red. The small size is highlighted by a lighter body shade and a yellow wooden fixation parts. The big date is darker in color with red wooden parts to resemble a mature date.
The organic shape and natural translucent material of date allows it to be a perfect lighting product when a small portable light is added inside it. The hue illuminated from this combination creates a romantic ambiance and transforms date into a new product.
