Alara Ersan, Hye Ji Bae and Andrea Arenas, students of the Master’s Programme in Interior & Living Design designed a place where people can meet new people in a new social context. Everyone moving into a new city brings his/her own culture, story and identity. When you arrive in a new place it’s hard to meet new people, for this reason students developed a place for who wants to interact physically with others. It is called The Storybox, a hub to share stories with others.
It is a public furniture structure where people can both interact digitally and physically. It is designed as a wall: on one side there is the screen constantly showing people’s stories and on the other side the modular furniture of the space.

When someone sends a story to the Storeybox the system finds an affinity between him/her and another user inside. It sends a color code to the person’s phone and then the modules light up to indicate where to go to meet the other user. As the person approaches the people’s names are revealed in the furniture and a trigger question appears to break the ice between them.
The aim is to lead people with different backgrounds using technology as a tool to meet physically and remind them that everyone has a story to tell.
