Usman Haque for Milano Digital Week
We are very excited to announce Usman Haque’s talk Infrastructures for Participation on March 19th within the events of the Milano Digital Week 2021.
Usman will speak about the perspective on architecture that is explicitly socio-political and founded on the principle of having more people involved in deciding and shaping cities’ future.
He will discuss the challenges of designing for participation and why it is a key strategy for dealing with difficulties that cities face due to the climate crisis, with specific reference to his projects over the last 15 years.
Usman Haque is the founding partner and creative director of Umbrellium, a designing and building urban technologies that support citizen empowerment and high-impact engagement in cities; and Thingful, a search engine for the Internet of Things.

Usman Haque is the founding partner and creative director of Umbrellium, a designing and building urban technologies that support citizen empowerment and high-impact engagement in cities; and Thingful, a search engine for the Internet of Things.
He launched the Internet of Things data infrastructure and community platform, which LogMeIn acquired in 2011.
Trained as an architect, he has created responsive environments, interactive installations, digital interface devices, and dozens of mass-participation initiatives worldwide. His skills include the design and engineering of physical spaces and the software and systems that bring them to life.
He has also taught at the Bartlett School of Architecture, including the Interactive Architecture Workshop and RC12 Urban Design cluster, “Participatory systems for networked urban environments.”
In 2008 he won the Design of the Year Award (interactive) from the Design Museum, UK, a 2009 World Technology Award (art), the Japan Media Arts Festival Excellence prize, and the Asia Digital Art Award Grand Prize.
