Compasso d’Oro award through the years

Established in 1954 from an idea by Gio Ponti, the Compasso d’Oro ADI Award is not only the oldest but also the most authoritative global design award. From its inception, it was conceived to highlight the excellence of Italian design and over the years has become recognized worldwide as a symbol and accolade for innovation, functionality, and high-level aesthetics.
In 70 years, celebrated with this year’s award ceremony, the award has honored more than 350 projects that embody the value of Italian design and conferred over two thousand Honorable Mentions to prominent designers.
Since 1994, Domus Academy has received three accolades from the ADI Foundation (Association for Industrial Design), which oversees the organization and selection process of the Compasso d’Oro Award.

The project CARI, developed by Elena Candeliere, Nicholas Aron, and Wiphawee Maneengarm within the Master’s programmes in Interaction Design and Service Design, has been awarded the Compasso d’Oro 2024 Targa Giovani Certificate. The certificate recognized the value of the project, which has a high social impact focusing on the needs related to long hospitalizations of pediatric patients. CARI, a device designed to keep patients, families, and medical staff in contact, was specifically proposed as part of this initiative.

In 1994, Domus Academy received the Compasso d’Oro for ‘its constant attention to frontier issues – from the humanization of technologies to exploring the connections between design and fashion, from reflecting on the sociology of design to design management and service design – the quality of education and editorial achievements make Domus Academy a new factor in enhancing the reputation of Italian design capability,’ an important recognition of the approach we have always cultivated.

The Enel X Juicepole project developed by Dafne Koz and Marco Susani, under the brand Koz Susani Design, received the Compasso d’Oro 2020 in 2020.
Both graduates of Domus Academy in the Master’s in Product Design, they developed the well-known electric vehicle charging station that managed to win the ADI recognition for its ability to introduce useful and innovative technology discreetly and non-invasively into the urban landscape.
