Semester in Business Design

The Semester Course in Business Design gives the foundations to apply design thinking to plan and renew business models.

Duration: 16 Weeks | Language: English | Start: February, September, November

This approx. 16-week journey will lead you to join selected theoretical courses with professionals, active learning sessions and workshops working in international and cross disciplinary teams and taking advantage of many networking occasions.

THE COURSE

The Semester Course in Business Design will lead you to join selected theoretical courses with professionals, active learning sessions and workshops working in international and cross disciplinary teams and taking advantage of many networking occasions.

After successfully completing the Semester Course, eligible students will be recognised 24 CFA/ECTS and will obtain a Certificate of Completion.

The 24 CFA/ECTS credits will be delivered upon successful completion of the course to students enrolled in the accredited path only; they will be used in case of progression to a Master’s Programme inside Domus Academy and might be validated at the option of the chosen University of reference in case of a transfer’s request to a postgraduate programme.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Participants are expected to have a first level academic degree or a previous professional experience in the related field of study.

IELTS 5.0 certificate or equivalent is required.

All courses are taught in English. A high level of proficiency in the English language is required.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Semester Course structure is organized in two modules.

Each module includes one theoretical course and one workshop in the specific area of interest.

Theoretical Courses

STRATEGIC BRANDING
The Strategic Branding course has the goal to support students to conduct a correct strategic market analysis – a key success factor for any entrepreneurial and business activity no matter how visionary.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP: BUSINESS MODELING
The course focuses on the entrepreneurial process of opportunity identification and exploitation; the nature of entrepreneurial opportunities; the traits of entrepreneurs; and the final definition of a business plan.

Workshops

PRODUCT STRATEGY
The Product Strategy workshop aims to develop project proposals able to combine different approaches in a new, innovative and surprising way.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP THROUGH DESIGN
The workshop explores issues, theories, cultures, and methods associated with the goal of designing an “ideal business”, starting from the assumption that every successful business and company is the realization of something that originated as a dream.

Fernando G. Alberti is a strategy advisor and business designer. Tenured professor of Strategic Entrepreneurship, he is Institutes Council Leader at Professor M.E. Porter’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, Harvard Business School (MA, US), for the MOC programme.

Designer and strategist with a diverse background spanning teaching, academic research, and agency projects. Passionate about the design process, she excels in problem-solving, problem-setting, and creating compelling visuals.

As a transdisciplinary designer, she leverages tools from communication, service, to business design. She enjoys building bridges between disciplines and interpreting various design languages.

In 2013, she received a Ph.D. cum Laude from the School of Design at Politecnico di Milano. During her Ph.D., she worked at the MobileLife Research Centre (Stockholm University) on service and interaction design devices, and at the metaLABab at Harvard University in the field of digital humanities.

For over eight years, she collaborated with the master’s degree course in Communication Design at Politecnico di Milano, specializing in designing transmedia systems and experiences to engage users and enhance cultural heritage. She works at Domus Academy as Programme Leader since 2016 in the branding and business areas. She also curates and organiszes talks and studio events with designers and artists.

Fernando G. Alberti is a strategy advisor and business designer. Tenured professor of Strategic Entrepreneurship, he is Institutes Council Leader at Professor M.E. Porter’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, Harvard Business School (MA, US), for the MOC programme.

He leads the Harvard-based international think-tank Strategique on designing future business models. His book “Entrepreneurship by Design” ranked 1st on Amazon amongst business best-sellers. Professor Alberti was awarded the Hall of Fame at Harvard Business School in 2019.
