Design Leadership is shaping a project and knowing how to carry it forward. It is vision, competence, and direction. 

The new Master of Arts in Design Leadership & Strategy offers an interdisciplinary educational experience to guide students through the dynamic intersection of design, strategic leadership, and entrepreneurship.

The students will become agents of change, launching businesses and leading companies and organisations, mixing methodologies and tools from various disciplines.

They will develop a design-driven and ethically conscious mindset applying creative and strategic skills to create impactful businesses and solutions.

The Design Leadership and Strategy MA Programme focuses on:

The programme focuses on cultivating a design-driven approach to address and frame strategic issues, envision innovative solutions, and facilitate communication among diverse disciplines by merging business and design perspectives.

The Master of Arts in Design Leadership & Strategy equips participants to act as change-makers, ethical leaders, and future entrepreneurs, shaping unconventional visions and transforming existing realities.

 

FIRST YEAR

During the programme’s first year, you will have the opportunity to engage in an educational experience comprising theoretical-practical courses and workshops. True to Domus Academy’s DNA, you will encounter the “learning by doing” method, enabling you to acquire and apply research methodologies in real-world projects within the industry.

You will begin your studies by learning tools and methods that emerge at the intersection of business and design, empowering you to envision new business concepts, strategies, and models. Additionally, you will be introduced to the history of Italian Design, including its key figures and entrepreneurs.

In the second semester, the programme will offer futures-oriented approaches to craft innovative strategies, along with frameworks and tools for implementing new organisational models. You will also explore brand design, mastering strategies for launching and communicating new product identities.

This structure aims to equip you with the necessary skills to navigate and influence the evolving landscape of design and business, fostering a deep understanding of both historical and contemporary contexts while preparing you for future industry challenges.

SECOND YEAR

During the second year, you will have the opportunity to test your entrepreneurial skills and learn how to lead companies and organisations with ethical principles and social responsibility. Through the personal branding course, you will develop and enhance your professional identity, learning how to build a strong network and effectively compete in the market. Additionally, you can choose from various bootcamps, such as an intensive accelerator programme designed to ignite your entrepreneurial journey.

In the second semester, you will be introduced to systemic design for mapping complex situations, and you will explore the themes of regenerative businesses, gaining practical experience through projects that have the potential to initiate positive changes. Furthermore, you may have the opportunity to engage in an internship within a company or participate in a professional learning experience.

The master’s programme culminates in a final thesis project, allowing you to test your skills through an individual project that marks the conclusion of your course of study.

  • Foster socially and environmentally impactful business solutions at various scales of complexity, employing cross-disciplinary approaches.
  • Promote an entrepreneurial culture by effectively managing all phases of the design process, from problem-setting to solution implementation.
  • Cultivate leadership skills and engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, preparing participants to lead companies and organisations by integrating approaches from diverse disciplines, while emphasising an ethically conscious strategic mindset.

PROGRAMME LEADER
2-year Master of Arts in Design Leadership & Strategy

Designer and strategist with a diverse background spanning teaching, academic research, and agency projects. Passionate about the design process, she excels in problem-solving, problem-setting, and creating compelling visuals.

As a transdisciplinary designer, she leverages tools from communication, service, to business design. She enjoys building bridges between disciplines and interpreting various design languages.

In 2013, she received a Ph.D. cum Laude from the School of Design at Politecnico di Milano. During her Ph.D., she worked at the MobileLife Research Centre (Stockholm University) on service and interaction design devices, and at the metaLABab at Harvard University in the field of digital humanities.

For over eight years, she collaborated with the master’s degree course in Communication Design at Politecnico di Milano, specializing in designing transmedia systems and experiences to engage users and enhance cultural heritage. She works at Domus Academy as Programme Leader since 2016 in the branding and business areas. She also curates and organiszes talks and studio events with designers and artists.
