We want to remember Valerio Castelli, Architect, Designer and amongst the founders of Domus Academy.
Close to the most innovative Italian design companies, Valerio Castelli founded Domus Academy, Italy’s first postgraduate design school, with Andrea Branzi, Alessandro Guerriero, Alessandro Mendini and Maria Grazia Mazzocchi.
Valerio gathered also together many emerging designers such as Michele De Lucchi, Alberto Meda, Paola Navone, Franco Raggi and many others, now key figures of Italian and international design.
“I was offered the wonderful opportunity to take part in the foundation of Domus Academy, and seized it with great enthusiasm. I participated in the creation of the courses, and like all beginnings it was enthralling and exciting.”
From 2001 to 2003 he has been Domus Academy CEO, foreseeing new directions the traditional design was taking and sensing the needs of Design Industry.
In 1972 he founded CentroKappa, awarded by Compasso d’Oro for research and promotion of Italian design in the 70’s. Together with Alessandro Mendini they created the Design magazine Modo. From 2004 to 2008 he has been Art Director at Olivetti and in 2006 he founded the DesignLibrary, the first library entirely dedicated to Design in Italy.
