Our student Selen Tavtin, who is attending the Double Award Master’s in Fashion Management, is developing a plant-based material to create alternatives for the leather industry. Selen is working in collaboration with the team of Centro Tessile Serico Sostenibile, the Italian-based fabric developing and testing laboratories based in Como, Italy.
The aim of the project is to ensure a strong bio-alternative material for the industry, creating the first made-in-Italy sample. They will start to carry out the first tests, in order to develop the material in a better way while giving priority to sustainability without greenwashing: “The process prevents water and energy consumption whilst using yeast as a fabric, therefore it is possible to say that this project is fully recyclable and sustainable”.
