Defne Koz awarded by Design Turkey Awards
We are proud to announce that our alumna Defne Koz, graduated from the Master’s in Product Design, has received “Good Design Award” by Design Turkey Awards.
She won the prize with Plato, project designed for Uniqka. Plato Collection is a series of trays and organizers made of leather, for organizing everyday objects with serenity, sophistication and bliss. Defne Koz and Uniqka have been experimenting with the material, pushing its boundaries and developing new techniques in order to create a contemporary design, making the material even more special.

Plato Collection is a series of trays and organizers made of leather, for organizing everyday objects with serenity, sophistication and bliss. Defne Koz and Uniqka have been experimenting with the material, pushing its boundaries and developing new techniques in order to create a contemporary design, making the material even more special.
When designing Plato Collection, Defne Koz focused on the refined craftsmanship of Uniqka and wanted to create a contemporary product for everyday use. Making of Plato is informed by leathercraft heritage and finesse. Plato is handcrafted with centuries old cuir bouilli (boiled leather) technique, using vegetable-tanned leather, an eco-friendly leather tanned with traditional methods. With Plato, Defne Koz and Uniqka developed new techniques to have a very clean and modern product.
The result is the Plato Collection, a series of trays and organizers in various sizes, shapes and colours.
Defne Koz started her career with the Italian Design guru Ettore Sottsass, then she established her design studio in Milan creating best-seller products for major design brands such as Alessi, Foscarini and Leucos. She is a pioneer designer in Turkey working for VitrA, Gaia&Gino, Lipton and today she is one of the most world renowned Turkish designer. She has been awarded the Compasso D’Oro 2020 under her brand Koz Susani Studio run in collaboration with Domus Academy alumnus Marco Susani.
